Regular Servicing
If the appliance is not maintained regularly, excessive amounts of ash and soot can build up within the appliance and flue. These can not only cause damage to humans but can damage appliances, they can cause mechanical operations to seize or fire bricks to break. To ensure that this risk is minimized regular servicing should include the full strip down of the appliance so that all of this soot can be removed before it is allowed to build up excessively. An excessive build up of soot and fly ash can also contribute to flue blockages and chimney fires.
